SUISEKI (viewing
stones or landscape stones) are in fashion
everywhere where the interest in bonsai has
flourished. The reason for the fascination of
Suiseki lies in their physical beauty and
immovability. Behind that physical simplicity
there is hidden all the beauty of a mountain or
mountain ranges, crater lakes, snow lined
ridges, chasms. Contemplation of the stone can
reveal to us more about our inner selves, the
stone reflecting our emotions through our
imagination. They can provoke thoughts of
mountains we have seen in our travels.
Another attraction is they do not require any
special care. If you are into woodworking, a
great deal of the joy can be in creating the dia
(stand) for the stone. The discovery itself can
be immensely pleasurable to the finder.
