History

The tree was destined for the tip until rescued by a passerby who is an avid bonsai enthusiast. The tree (or should be say, vine) is estimated to be about 70 years old and only began its training as a bonsai early in 2003.Several trunks were cut away in order to conform to a recognized bonsai style and all the foliage as you see it today was re-grown on the bare wood. Bougainvillea make stunning Bonsai and flower at least twice a year. They are very hardy and easy to train. The ideal focal plant where a showy tree is needed in your outdoor area. Over time and with constant pruning, the Bougainvillea seem to lose their thorns.

Her Fame

We are proud to say that she has been featured in the following two books overseas. While bougainvillea grow well in Indonesia and are featured as specimen plants, there seems to be little use of this species as bonsai.   Maybe they might gain in popularity now.

Re-potting time for “Mother and Daughter”.   It is all a matter of logistics.
